Old White is a weathered grey-green that instantly makes a space feel established. It was designed to mimic sun-faded paint, so it looks authentic on beams, tongue-and-groove panelling, and cabinetry in period homes. On walls it behaves like a neutral with a botanical wink, softening hard surfaces while still pairing with modern fixtures.

Because it holds both green and grey, Old White bridges rustic beams, limestone, and even black-framed glazing—ideal for cottages that have been extended with contemporary additions. Layer it with Drop Cloth or Shaded White to zone open-plan areas or highlight trim.

Testing dupes and finishes

Dupes must keep the muted green undertone without swinging khaki. Paint boards with two coats, prop them next to your flooring and fabrics, and track them in daylight and evening lamplight. Exterior joinery or high-traffic cottage kitchens benefit from satin enamels; quieter rooms can rely on dead-flat emulsions for that chalky feel. Always prime knotty timber—Old White is subtle enough that resin bleed will show.

When pairing with deeper greens like Pigeon or Treron, keep sheen levels consistent so the palette reads intentional. If you need extra warmth, introduce aged brass hardware or terracotta accents; the colour is neutral enough to support them without muddying.

Old White softens plaster and stone, disguises everyday scuffs, and makes antiques feel curated rather than cluttered. The trade-off: because the tone is gentle, sloppy roller work is visible—sand surfaces and work in good light. Finish with woven rugs, linen upholstery, and wrought-iron lighting to let the colour’s heritage roots shine while keeping the scheme comfortable and timeless.
